Information For Parents / Carers

The world of careers can feel huge for both students and parents. Here at Soar Valley College, we are committed to providing a high standard of careers education to ensure that your child has the best possible start in their career.

Leaving school

The law states that all students have to stay in full time education or training until at least their 18th birthday. Students can choose options from;

  • A full time course at a college studying for A levels or a vocational course.

  • Learning while you earn on an apprenticeship, traineeship or study programme.

It is important that students start a course in the September after they complete Year 11 even if they hope to start an apprenticeship or join the armed forces. They can always drop out later but by starting a course, they will be fulfilling the requirement if their preferred plan doesn’t work out.
