Extra Curricular

Soar Valley College has Leicester Childrens University School accreditation. This means that we can reward students for participating in clubs and activities in out of school hours. Students can log their hours by collecting a Learning Passport from student reception. This culminates in a Graduation ceremony at the University for the students with their parents.

We offer an enormous variety of activities to students on a daily basis that we feel bring a range of benefits and opportunities. These activities occur before school, lunch time or after school. Participation is voluntary in all cases

First Aid (Accredited Course)

In Year 10 students are given the opportunity to do a First Aid qualification with a Peer Education programme. This entails studying First Aid and being trained to deliver Safety in The Home sessions to Y5 & Y6 Primary school children.

All Year 11 students can follow an Adult First Aid qualification that is valid for 3 years.

Breakfast Club

A variety of healthy food and drinks, both hot and cold are served in the school dining hall every morning from 7.45am until 8.30am. Teaching staff supervise and offer advice in an informal, safe and friendly setting.

Creative Activities

Music, street dance, drama and guitar are amongst those activities offered for students who feel stronger and more confident in creative activities.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

This is offered in three levels Bronze, Silver & Gold.

Games Club

Games are provided in the Library every morning from 8.00am – 8.30am. Students are able to enjoy the games in a safe setting prior to commencing the days work.

Homework Club

A calm, supervised environment in the library allows students to do their homework using College resources and computers. This is held every evening from 3.15pm until 4.00pm.

Opportunities to pursue particular interests

These may include chess, ICT or Art and Design.

Paired Reading Scheme

KS4 students work alongside Year 7 students to improve reading skills.

Physical Education & Sports

A wide variety of sports are offered for all students. They may be single or mixed sex, competitive or non competitive situations.

Study Support

Advice on how to study / revise and help with coursework etc. is offered to KS4 students using the College ICT facilities on most days after school.

Subject Based Activities 

Most subjects offer sessions for the students to pursue their interests and receive extra guidance from the teaching staff.

All of the above activities are publicised to the students on the Plasma Screens throughout the College.

In addition to the daily activities outlined above students are also offered many other opportunities, activities and trips that take place at different times throughout the year.

Extra-curricular activities have started!

76 different activities and clubs are already being offered to our students this term. They are advertised both on the plasma screens around the college and the new school website http://www.soarvalley.leicester.sch.uk/

Students can also collect a paper copy of what is on offer this term from student reception. Please do encourage your child to attend and log their hours in their Learning passport. All activities are FREE

Leicester Childrens University Graduation Event

We are very proud of the 63 Soar Valley students that attended our Graduation ceremony held here on 23rd September 2015.  The students were awarded certificates from Lynne Upton, Director of Learning for Childrens University, for all the hours of ‘extra-curricular’ study that they attended last year. Parents watched their children receive their awards dressed in full Graduation gowns. This was then followed by the taking of photographs and a light buffet. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for all. 

Year 11 First Aid

135 students have already successfully completed a 3 hour intensive Adult First Aid award with the St Johns Ambulance service. The course covers the elements of choking, bleeding, the recovery position & CPR resuscitation for all ages. The award is valid for 3 years. Well done!

Leicester Riders Basket Ball

The Leicester Riders are running FREE coaching sessions in the Sports hall every Tuesday 4.30 – 5.30 for all students in Y8 – Y10. It’s a real chance to improve your skills with the professionals!
