Key Stage 4 Curriculum

At Soar Valley we currently operate a two-week timetable, with 50 lessons of one hour each.

In Years 10 and 11 some subjects are compulsory. These are shown in the table below with the number of hours per fortnight allocated to each subject. In addition students will study three optional subjects.

English

Students will study towards two English GCSEs, one in English Language and one in English Literature

Mathematics

Students will spend extra time studying for their Mathematics GCSE compared to many subjects, due to the importance of this qualification for future work and study.

Science

9

Most students will gain two GCSEs in Science. Triple Science is available through the options for students with a particular aptitude in Science.

English Baccalaureate Subject

All students are required to study at least one English Baccalaureate GCSE in addition to their Double Science qualification.  We offer French, German, Triple Science, History, Geography and Computer Science.

Religious Studies

All students at Soar Valley will study GCSE Religious Studies over three years, beginning in Year 9.

Physical Education

A non-GCSE course to meet the needs and interests of students and encourage future participation in sporting activities.

Personal Development

1

A non-GCSE course in Personal, Health, Social, Citizenship and Economic Education, which covers many key ideas and skills.
